SoundStation 2W Battery Recall (for units sold prior to January 2006)

Note: This recall pertains only to batteries shipped with phones prior to January 2006

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Polycom is voluntarily recalling batteries for the SoundStation 2W wireless conference phone. The impacted batteries are part numbers 1520-07803-001 and 1520-07804-001 with a date code of 1205 (December 2005) or earlier for all worldwide markets. The batteries have a black or white plastic coating and a white label with the following title: "RECHARGEABLE Li-ion BATTERY." The date code is located in the lower left corner of the battery label and the part number is to the right of the date code.

Polycom has received two reports of batteries overheating and causing minor damage to the tables on which the units sat. This does not affect any other SoundStation or any other Polycom products. As a precaution, Polycom is instructing consumers worldwide to take the following action:

• Remove the battery from the unit immediately:

  

  • Note* Please note that after you remove the battery and replace the battery plate, your SoundStation2W can safely be used when plugged in to the AC adapter/charger module originally provided with your SoundStation2W. Customers should not attempt to use other batteries in the unit.

  

• Please fill out the SoundStation2W Battery Return Form with your name, shipping information, and the serial numbers of your SoundStation2W conference phones, or call one of the following numbers:

  Polycom will send you a replacement battery free of charge for each SoundStation2W unit that you own. Due to the fact that we are undergoing rigorous testing to ensure that our replacement batteries are free of this issue, please expect 2 to 4 weeks for delivery of the new battery.

• After receiving the replacement battery, simply place the old battery back into the shipping box, attach the included pre-paid return tag, and schedule a pickup with FedEx or drop the box into any FedEx drop box. It is critical that these batteries are recycled properly, so please return the old battery to Polycom. The batteries should not be used with any other product.

  Potentially affected batteries were sold with the below 12 hour talk time/non-expandable and 24 hour talk time/expandable SoundStation2W models.

In addition, these batteries may have also been provided in response to service calls. The SoundStation2W wireless conference phones with these batteries were shipped to customers prior to January 3, 2006 in all worldwide regions.
