KIRK Handset FAQs

Q: The volume in the loudspeaker gets lower over time?
A: If the KIRK Handset is used in metallic industries there is a risk of metallic dust in the air, which may penetrate the housing. This happens due to the active force of the loudspeaker magnet. In such cases, the loudspeaker membrane will become more and more "fixed" and the volume will decrease causing the problem to increase over time. Contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: The KIRK Handset has lost the connection to the system. Sign for antenna signal has disappeared as well as the Stand by text?
A: The KIRK Handset might have lost the Subscription to the system. Depending on the Handset used you can try to establish a login to the system using the LOGIN menu. If no ARI System number is present in the LOGIN menu, subscription is lost. If the system is set to "subscription allow" it is possible to re-create a subscription. Routines for LOGIN and SUBSCRIPTION can be found in the handset user guide. If subscription has been deleted on the KIRK Wireless Server it will not be possible to create a new subscription if the system is not set in "subscription allow" mode. Please contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: The KIRK Handset does not show CLIP/Caller ID during calls?
A: The analog based KIRK Wireless Server 8000 Solutions are compatible with FSK or DTMF Clip. Depending on the system used, the CLIP information may be received whilst the handset is ringing or shortly afterwards.

Q: Sometimes the KIRK Handset gives an audible signal for no apparent reason?
A: If the handset is close to or "out of range" the handset will make a beep. Move back into radio coverage. The "out of range" beep can be disconnected. Find instructions how to disconnect "out of range" beep in the user guide.

Q: Sometimes the connection is lost during conversation?
A: A number of various reasons for lost calls can be listed. Mainly lost calls happen due to a lack of radio coverage. Reflections from surroundings may also cause lost calls. If residential DECT systems are used in an area also covered by a KIRK Wireless Server, calls may be lost due to interference between the different systems. Contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: Every time a call is established/received it is necessary to adjust the volume of the loudspeaker. Can the volume be set to max as standard?
A: It is possible to adjust the start-up volume to a personal setting rather than the factory setting. Find the method for adjusting the start-up volume in the user guide.

Q: When using headset the volume in the ear piece is too low even if the volume is set to maximum?
A: On the market you can find a variety of headsets, which all have different specifications. To find the right headset to be used with KIRK Handsets, please contact your local distributor or installer.

Q: The cadence of the ringing signal in the handset differs from the desk phone connected in parallel to the handset. When an incoming call is received and off-hook is made on the desk phone the KIRK Handset continues to ring once or twice?
A: The analog based KIRK Wireless Server Solutions have the possibility to setup their own generated ringing or to follow the ringing frequency based on the analog line that signals the incoming call. Please contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: Difference between an incoming external call and an incoming local call cannot be determined from the ringing cadence?
A: If a SIP based KIRK Wireless Server solution is used the internal/external signal may depend on a specific SIP Header. On the analog Telephony based KIRK Wireless Server Solutions the ringing frequency may need to be adjusted to follow the ringing cadence from the PABX. Please contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: Is it possible to change the start-up text in the display?
A:The KIRK 40-Handset Series can utilize the Service Tool 4.21 from here and require a Programming Cable (0231 9509).
The KIRK 50-, 60- and 70-Handset Series can utilize the Handset Management Program and a USB Cradle. Contact your local distributor or installer for further assistance.

Q: The date and time indication for CLIP/Caller ID is wrong?
A: Depending on the KIRK Wireless Server solution the time is either received from a Time Server in the Network or can be manually setup to the correct time. Additionally, the CLIP/Caller ID received via an analog system may send the wrong time. Contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: The person at the other end can barely hear me?
A: Try having the person at the other end turn up the volume on his/her telephone. If that does not help, contact your local distributor or installer for assistance. The microphone gain can be adjusted either in the central controller or in the KIRK Handset.

Q: The KIRK Handset "howls" during conversation?
A: The volume is set too high. Try adjusting it or set the start-up volume to a lower setting. If the problem persists, contact your local distributor or installer for adjustment of the microphone.

Q: If using a KIRK Handset in a noisy environment, the volume in the loudspeaker varies and it is not possible to hear the person in the other end?
A: The sensitivity regarding noise in the environment can be adjusted in the central controller. Contact your local distributor or installer for assistance. Ask for changing of the suppressor setting.

Q: Carrying the handset in a pocket, sometimes an off-hook is made by mistake?
A: Depending of the software version in the central controller it is possible to activate an auto on-hook function. Please check the Handset Admin Guide and/or contact your local distributor or installer for assistance.

Q: Can I use my KIRK Handset on other systems?
A: All KIRK Handsets can be used in all types of KIRK solutions. If you wish to use a KIRK handset on other types of DECT/GAP systems, we cannot ensure that full functionality is possible.

Q: I would like to use the same KIRK Handset on two different sites?
A: All KIRK Handsets can be subscribed to up to 10 different systems. Some types of handsets cannot change via "Auto Login" by themselves, but there is the possibility of establishing a manual login as soon as you enter the coverage area of the other system. The KIRK Handset is able to find the alternative system without doing anything from the keyboard and can be set to Auto LOGIN. If you are in possession of an older version of handset without this facility, it can be upgraded. For upgrading please contact your local distributor or installer.
