Polycom To Demonstrate Sametime Integration With Polycom VVX 1500 Business Media Phone At Voicecon Orlando 2009

Polycom is working with IBM to demonstrate the new Polycom® VVX™ 1500 business media phone in use with IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony at VoiceCon Orlando. The standards-based VVX 1500 integrates with Sametime Unified Telephony using session initiation protocol (SIP) to deliver a rich video experience for users.

This integration allows rich media communications and collaboration to be leveraged by companies across the users' desktop software (such as Sametime Unified Telephony softphone), their conferencing room systems from Polycom, and new Unified Communications devices like the Polycom VVX 1500. This seamless experience will help drive the deployment of an overall rich media collaboration strategy for all types of users in all types of contexts.

According to Akiba Saeedi, director of unified communications and collaboration at IBM, "Sametime Unified Telephony users can select the VVX 1500 as one of their preferred devices and are able to have high-quality voice and video communication and collaboration with others using the embedded Sametime Unified Telephony softphone. Because both IBM and Polycom support standard protocols and codecs, this integration was accomplished with no additional work from either company."

The Polycom VVX 1500 is the first device of its kind to combine a personal video conferencing system with a fully featured voice over IP (VoIP) telephone with Polycom HD Voice™ and an open application programming interface (API) and microbrowser for real-time delivery of personalized Web content as well as integration with key business applications. All of these features are seamlessly integrated with an intuitive color touch-screen interface to enhance personal productivity, simplify multimedia communications, improve team collaboration, and reduce travel costs.
