Feb 28, 2012, PLEASANTON, Calif.

Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in standards-based unified communications (UC), today announced that Polycom® RealPresence® video collaboration solutions will connect two TED conference locations – TED2012 in Long Beach and TEDActive in Palm Springs, Calif. – via immersive HD video. The Polycom-powered video solution will enable TEDActive host Kelly Stoetzel and audience members in Palm Springs to interact directly with TED2012 Curator and host Chris Anderson on the main stage in Long Beach during TED2012 "Full Spectrum," February 28 to March 2.

"TED is one of the most thought-provoking events on the planet," said Andy Miller, president and CEO of Polycom. "The ideas exchanged at TED are fascinating and have the power to change the world. It's an honor for Polycom to play a role in TED2012 by bringing audience and speakers together via interactive HD video. We embrace the spirit of TED in our own business with our mission to create experiences that push the greatness of human collaboration forward. Polycom video solutions eliminate the barriers of distance when people are mobile or physically located on different continents. Through the power of face to face video collaboration, we bring people together from anywhere, to share expertise, enjoy common experiences, and build trust and understanding through collaboration that's as lifelike as being there."

"TED has had the pleasure of collaborating with many of the world's most groundbreaking brands. Our partnerships with companies such as Polycom allow us to encourage and expand the dialogue of innovation," said Ronda Carnegie, Head of Global Partnerships at TED.

To provide attendees between Long Beach and Palm Springs with a face-to-face experience, TED2012 will use the Polycom® HDX® series of telepresence systems, which use enterprise IP networks to deliver Polycom's legendary HD video and sound quality and ease of use in auditoriums, personal workspaces and corporate meeting rooms.

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Long Beach, California, along with the TEDActive simulcast in Palm Springs; the annual TEDGlobal conference is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide, and TEDBooks, short e-books by speakers that elaborate on a single idea originally presented on TED's stage. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
