Chief Executive Officer, Baja Corporation LLC and Co-Founder of Ascend Communications
Ms. Atkins has been one of our directors since April 1999. Ms. Atkins is the chief executive officer of Baja Corporation LLC, an early stage venture capital company investing in technology and life sciences. Ms. Atkins served as chairman and chief executive officer of NCI, Inc. from 1990 to 1993. Ms. Atkins was a founder and director of Ascend Communications, Inc., and from 1989 to 1990, she was its vice president of Marketing and Sales. Ms. Atkins is also a director of Chico's FAS, Inc., Reynolds American Inc., SunPower Corporation, and a number of private companies, including The NASDAQ Stock Market Exchange LLC. Ms Atkins was a presidential appointee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Trust Corp. and is a trustee of Florida International University. Ms. Atkins holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts.
Chief Executive Officer and President of McAfee, Inc.
Mr. DeWalt joined the Polycom board of directors in November 2005. A veteran technology industry leader, DeWalt currently serves as CEO and president of McAfee, Inc. Previously, DeWalt served as president and CEO of Documentum Inc., the global leader in enterprise content management, before the company was acquired by EMC Corporation in 2003, and he then held various positions at EMC, including as EVP of the EMC Software Group and the president of the EMC Documentum and Legato software divisions. Prior to leading Documentum, Mr. DeWalt held senior positions with Web content software provider Eventus Software, e-business software provider Segue Software, performance management solution provider Quest Software, and Oracle Corporation. DeWalt holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Delaware.
Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President
Mr. Hagerty joined Polycom in January 1997 as president, chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. In July 1998, he was named chief executive officer, and in March 2000 he became chairman of the board of directors.
Bob came to Polycom to build on the vision of delivering a total conferencing and collaboration solution to the customer. During Bob's tenure, Polycom has made a number of key acquisitions—such as SpectralLink, Destiny Conferencing, DST Media, Voyant Technologies, ViaVideo, Accord Networks, PictureTel, MeetU, ASPI and Circa Communications —building the most complete product offering for collaborative communications. His continuing focus on customer need has led to the creation of a customer facing, direct touch sales force and a world-class global service and distribution channel. Industry analyst group Frost & Sullivan named Mr. Hagerty CEO of the Year in 2005.
Prior to joining Polycom, Bob served as President of Stylus Assets, Ltd. and held key senior management positions with Logitech, Inc., Connor Peripherals, Signal Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation. In addition to being on the Polycom board of directors, Bob also serves on the board of Palm, Inc. Mr. Hagerty holds a B.S. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and an M.A. in Management from St. Mary's College of California.
Former President and Chief Executive Officer of McDATA Corporation
Mr. Kelley has been one of our directors since March 2000. Mr. Kelley most recently served as the chairman, president and CEO of McDATA Corporation until it was acquired by Brocade Communications in January 2007. Prior to joining McDATA, Mr. Kelley served as executive vice president of Networks at Qwest Communications from August 2000 to December 2000. He served as president of Wholesale Markets for U S West from May 1998 to July 2000. From 1995 to April 1998, Mr. Kelley served as vice president and general manager of Large Business and Government Accounts and president of Federal Services for U S West. Prior to joining U S West, Mr. Kelley was the area president for Mead Corporation's Zellerbach Southwest Business Unit and vice president and general manager for Zellerbach Industrial Business Unit during 1991 to 1995. Mr. Kelley is also a director of a private company and of Colorado Women's Vision Foundation and Mt. St. Vincent, not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Kelley holds a B.S. in Business from the University of Missouri.
Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer and Director
Since January 1999, Michael R. Kourey has been a member of the Polycom board of directors and served as senior vice president of Finance and Administration. Since January 1995, Mr. Kourey has also served as our chief financial officer. In the past, he served as vice president of Finance and Administration (January 1995 to January 1999), vice president of Finance and Operations (July 1991 to January 1995), secretary (June 1993 to May 2003), and treasurer (May 2003 to May 2004). Prior to joining Polycom, Mr. Kourey was vice president of Operations at Verilink Corporation. Mr. Kourey currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Aruba Networks, Inc. and Riverbed Technology, Inc. and serves on the advisory board of the Business School at Santa Clara University. Mr. Kourey holds a B.S. in Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis, and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.
Chairman of the Board at Adaptec, Inc.
Mr. Mercer joined the Polycom board of directors in November 2007. He is a recognized technology industry leader whose career spans three decades across various executive functions from operations and strategic planning to finance within the storage and computer industry segments. Mercer is currently the chairman of the board at Adaptec, Inc. having served as its interim CEO in 2005. He was also at Western Digital Corporation as its chief financial and administrative officer in the early 90s, returning 2001-2004 as its CFO during which time he also served as advisor to the CEO regarding business development matters. At Dell in the late 90s he served in vice president of finance roles, and as Dell's vice president of product development for its desktop and notebook product lines. Mercer's other executive positions have included CFO of TeraLogic, Inc., CFO and controller of LSI Logic Corporation, and as an accountant with Price Waterhouse. In addition to Polycom and Adaptec, Mercer serves on the boards of Conexant Systems, Palm, Inc. and SMART Modular Technologies (WWH), Inc. He received his B.S. in Accounting from California Polytechnic University.
Managing Director AEA Investors and Former Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Nortel Networks
Mr. Owens joined the Polycom board of directors in December 2005 and was previously a director of Polycom from August 1999 to May 2004. Owens joined AEA Investors, a New York private equity company, in April 2004. Owens is also the former CEO of Nortel and vice chairman to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Owens is a recognized leader in the telecommunications industry, which he entered following a distinguished military career. He joined Nortel Networks in 2004 as chief executive officer and vice chairman and during his tenure re-established the company as a strong, stable and ethical leader in the telecommunications and enterprise IT global marketplace. Prior to joining Nortel, Owens was chief executive officer and chairman of Teledesic LLC and president, COO, and vice chairman of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the largest employee-owned technology company in the U.S.
Owens was a career officer in the U.S. Navy where he served as commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in 1990 and 1991, and as senior military assistant to Secretaries of Defense Frank Carlucci and Dick Cheney. His military career culminated in his position as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff where he had responsibility for the reorganization and restructuring of the armed forces in the post-Cold War era. He is widely recognized for bringing commercial high technology into the U.S. Department of Defense for military applications and as the architect of the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA), an advanced systems technology approach to military operations.
Mr. Owens also sits on the board of Daimler Chrysler AG, Embarq Corporation, and Wipro Ltd., as well as several private and philanthropic boards. Mr. Owens holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University and a Master's in Management from George Washington University.

Mr. Parker joined the Board in January 2005. Parker, a recognized technology industry leader, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Deltek, Inc, a provider of enterprise software applications. Prior to joining Deltek, he served as PeopleSoft's CFO from October 2000 to December 2004. He was also named co-president of PeopleSoft in October 2004. Prior to joining PeopleSoft, Mr. Parker served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for CRM provider Aspect Communications Corp., as well as held senior management positions at Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Standard Microsystems, and Toshiba America.
Mr. Parker is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. In 2000, CFO Magazine named him one of 20 CFOs who would make a difference in the next decade. Mr. Parker received his B.S. in Accounting from Clarkson University, where he also serves on the board of trustees.
